School Rules

This week we read "David Goes to School."  Students created a David portrait and we created a chart on what our school rules are.  Students then wrote down ways that we are respectful, responsible, safe and kind at school.

The Kissing Hand

I read aloud the book The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn the first week at school.  Students made raccoons and wrote about what they hoped to learn this year.  They put together their hand prints and made cookie hands.  It has been a busy start.  We are making our beginning of the year class books. Pictures will be posted soon.

Welcome Back

This week begins a brand new school year for all of us, and I’d like to extend a warm welcome to my students.  I am looking forward to another year here at Ursa Major.

I have taught multiple grades for the last eight years. Second grade is one of my favorite grades to teach!  This year will be an exciting and educational year in your child’s life and I am glad I get to share it with them. We will be adventuring through several new concepts as well as revisiting and mastering familiar ones.

See you Wednesday, August 22nd!

Gallon Man

Students busy at work on their 'Gallon' men.  The Gallon Man shows the measurements of gallons, quarts, pints, and cups and how they relate to each other.  Using this illustration students can figure out how many cups there are in a pint, quart, and gallon.  Students are able to see how many pints are in a quart and gallon; as well as the number of quarts in a gallon.  These concepts can be very challenging.  Once they are put on the poster as a man it is organized and easier to see.

Measurement

We have been working on measurement.  Students were given pictures of fish and about how long they are in inches.  Students took yarn and measured out the actual size of each fish.
